Birth/baptismal record obtained from St. Mary's Basilica, Halifax, N.S. Occupation given as painter on the 1881 census. An interesting article appeared in the May 24, 1937 edition of the BOSTON POST about Emmanuel John; he was retiring as a compositor from a local print plant. The article told about Emmanuel having dove from the Brooklyn bridge, 50 years previously, back in 1887! He did this on a dare, was later arrested, and spent a year in jail! While in jail, he was visited by Mark Twain. Four months after his retirement Emmanuel died.
