When the Servant of God, Mother Margherita De Brincat, Foundress of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Heart Of Jesus, retired from Superior General of her named Congregation and was succeeded by Mother Nazzarena Gouder on the advice of the late Friar Angelo Mizzi OFM. Cap., former Vicar General of the Diocese of Jhansi, India, four nuns were sent as missionaries to Abyssinia, in present day Ethiopia.
Arriving on November 6, 1927, they settled themselves in Sofi where they opened a school and an orphanage.
Sr. Rosa Agius, who served as Mother Superior of the group, died shortly afterwards of typhoid in 1929.
