Don married Mortie Ann Clifford on December 6, 1962, in Hillsboro, Ohio. They have three children: Don Dale "Spud" Throckmorton Jr.; Tina Beth Throckmorton; and Lee Ann Throckmorton Breech.
Don liked to farm, garden, and raise his grandbabies. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He and Mortie have twelve grandchildren: Don Clayton Ellis, Robert Keith Campbell, Clinton Dale Throckmorton, Triston Ann Throckmorton, Justin Robert Throckmorton, Criston Beth Ellis, Heather Rochelle Breech, Paula Miranda Breech, Duston Samuel Ellis, Megan Leeann Throckmorton, Isaac Paul Raymond Breech, and Destiny May Throckmorton.
He is buried in the Throckmorton family cemetery, which is Rockwell Cemetery, located in the area of Scioto County known as McCullough.
