"Billy" was born in Carmel, Ohio, on Feb. 6, 1948. He was the son of Ernest A. Brown and Zelma Beekman.

He married Nancy Lewis on Nov. 17, 1966.
Billy went to school at Sinking Spring, Ohio. Before entering the Army, he worked for the Highland County [Ohio] Highway Department.
Billy was drafted into the Army via Selective Service in 1968, and was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division: C Co 4th Bn 39th Inf. Their division motto was "ANYTHING - ANYWHERE - ANYTIME - BAR NONE."
Billy was a Spec. 4 serving in the United States Army when he was killed in action during his seventh month in Viet Nam, on Friday, November 15, 1968, at the height of the conflict in South Vietnam, when he was 20 years old.
The official site of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial lists this information for him:

Dinh Tuong was a small, very rural farming area in the north of the Mekong Delta, one of the most dangerous places in South Vietnam in 1968. When I was growing up, I always heard that he was killed when the jeep he was riding in ran over an explosive device.

He was interred in the Beavers Cemetery in Rainsboro, Highland County, Ohio.
