HOBART was born to Mantha S. Morgan , Shepherd H. Morgan
Siblings are, Shepard Alan Morgan , Carl Andrew Morgan , Gale Freeman Morgan , Evelyn M. King , Pete Morgan ,Peggy M. Finlay, Martha M Bruffey , L. Frank Morgan,
He died at age 56 as a consequence of alcoholism - it was about as tragic as such a disease can be for everybody who cares. He was the best looking, and as talented as anyone in the family and loved dearly by everyone who knew him. He was a joy to be around and he and brother Carl enjoyed a close and almost always friendly relationship most of his years. They went to the CCC Camp together during the Great Depression years and helped keep the family of eleven afloat in those desperate times. After getting out of the CCC they both played the piano and other musical instruments and could tap dance with the best. They had a ball in their early years and Hobart married an angel called Margaret Carpenter, and they had an idealic family with one very handsome son, Stanley, and a very beautiful daughter, Mary Ann. I spent all the time I could with them when they lived in Rocky Mount in the Mid to late Forties while I was going to college at Chapel Hill. Hobart played piano Honkey Tonk style and everyone wanted him to play everyhere he went. Hobart had a fine career going in the National Guard and was up for Commision from senior Warrant Officer when a general reduction in numbers caused him to get out against his will. Though he never told me anything, I suspect his drinking may have been a small part of the problem as such tends to get on the offical medical if not performance record after many years of service. He was never the same old Hobart after he got out of the Guard. He died of acute cirrhosis of the liver. He was a very special person as was Margaret, who outlived him by 20 years in Las Vegas, NV. One of Hobart's favorite sayings in the late forties was, " Now, don't give me no romance!" By which he meant, be yourself with me and forget any pretense; he liked honesty and especially desired it in those he cared a lot about. He would have wanted me to be honest in this note on his life. I cared a lot about Hobart and I still think of him often. Leon
