Her paternal grandparents immigrated to the US from Wales in 1847. She was born in Ashe Co., NC and moved to Burke Co., NC as a girl. Attended school at Valley Crusis in 1918. Received her RN from Memorial Mission Hospital Nurses Training and worked as a private duty nurse until retirement. Served in World War II as a nurse. Married Thomas Wier Brown April 11, 1925. They lived in Asheville, NC.

Rachel Brown. Rachel Lloyd Brown, 90, of 27 Plateau Road, died Saturday, Sept. 26 in an Asheville hospital. A native of the Chesterfield community of Burke County, she attended the Episcopal School at Valle Crucis and graduated from Mission Hospital School of Nursing in 1923. She was a staff registered nurse at Mission as well as private duty in Asheville. During WWII, she was a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. Brown was active in PTA and in local RN organizations. She was a member, Sunday school teacher and communicant at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Surviving are her husband, Thomas Wier Brown; two daughters, Mary Lloyd Brown Frank and Rachel Elizabeth Brown Battles; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A Requiem Mass will be at 2 pm Tuesday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, with Father Edward G. Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard at Fletcher. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 339 Charlotte St., Asheville 28801.
