Widow of Colonel Samuel E.
Adams, Noted Mason,
Passes Away.

Mrs. Augusta J. Adams, widow of the late Col. Samuel E. Adams, the second oldest member of the supreme council of the 33d degree of the Scottish Rite Masons, died yesterday at her home at the age of 79 years. She was born in Pittsford, Vt., in 1834, and was married to Colonel Adams in 1859.
Shortly afterward she came to the then frontier state of Minnesota with her husband and passed through the excitement and danger of the Sioux massacre in 1862. She also accompanied her husband in some of his journeys when he was paymaster in the army during the Civil war.
Mrs. Adams became greatly interested in the Grange movement in the early days and was among its most active promoters, having served as the secretary of the State Grange of Minnesota for about 20 years, and was at one time an officer in the National Grange.
In all her husband's varied career she was his earnest helpmate and supporter. She always stood for good will toward men and the progress and betterment of mankind.
She is survived by two boys, Henry R. Adams of this city and Dr. John C. Adams of Superior, Wis. The funeral will be private, only close friends of the family being invited, and will be held at the residence, 55 Cedar Lake road, Monday at 10:30.

She married Samuel Emery Adams 21 Jul 1859 in Pittsford, Rutland County, Vermont.
