John Logan Baker Sr., age 89, a resident of Columbia, passed away December 16, 2009 at NHC/Hillview Nursing Home.

A memorial service for Mr. Baker will be conducted Monday, December 28 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Frank Smith and Pastor Scott Aleridge officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time in the Atrium of the church.

Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is assisting the family with the services.

Born in Columbia, Mr. Baker was the son of the late Rufus and Elva Beasley Baker and the husband of the late Mary Francis Haston Baker. He was a lifelong farmer and a real estate broker with Dean Real Estate & Auction in Maury County. He had worked with the Maury County Jaycees on community projects and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his sons: John (Bobbie Lou) Baker of Columbia, Al (Lynn) Baker of Raleigh, NC and Bob Baker of Chattanooga; grandchildren: Kimberly (Thomas) Phu, Timothy (Rachael) Rountree and Josh (Katie) Rountree; 7 great grandchildren.

Mr. Baker chose anatomical donation to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis, TN and the family request that memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 222 W. 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401.
