Mr. Alford, 34, of Matthews, N.C., died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 6, 1971, in Germany and was the son of Jerilyn "Lyn" Friend Alford and Lodwick Kirkland Alford. He attended Davidson College on a basketball scholarship and graduated from the University of North Florida and received his MBA from the University of Central Florida. He was an assistant to Mr. Frank Renfrow of Matthews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at Matthews Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dr. John Wilkerson and the Rev. Catherine George officiating. Interment will be in the Matthews Historical Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Heather Coker Alford; a son, Tristan Kirkland Alford of the home; parents, Kirk and Lyn Alford of Lenexa, Kan.; a brother, Brett Alford of Charlotte, N.C.; paternal grandfather, Captain Lodwick H. Alford, USN (Ret.) of Sea Island, Ga.; maternal grandmother, Mildred Friend of Portsmouth, R.I.
