Notes: THE PARIS NEWS, 13 Feb 1958: 'Luke C. Abbett, 1519 Clarksville St., retired district sales representative of the Gulf Oil Corporation here, died about 4 p.m. Thursday in a Paris hospital, where he had been a patient a few days. He had been in failing health recently, and had retired January 1. Funeral services at Fry and Gibbs chapel will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Seth Parker of Central Presbyterian Church. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Born at Georgetown, Ky, 13 Dec 1892, Luke Cox Abbett was a son of the late William G. and Linda (Pulliam) Abbett. He married Miss Frances Finnell in Louisville, Ky., in July, 1917, and she survives, besides these children: Mrs. Frank E. Fuller, Jr., Waco; Luke C. Abbett, Jr. White Oak, and Spencer L. Abbett, Paris, and five grandchildren. Graduate of Georgetown High school and of Georgetown College, Mr. Abbett attended the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He served two and a half years in the army as a lieutenant in World War I, going overseas with the Ninth Infantry, Second Division, and remaining nine months after the Armistice, with the American occupation forces. He had followed other business pursuits briefly before becoming an employee of Gulf Oil in 1919. He represented this corporation in Sherman and San Angelo before his transfer here in 1934. He was active in various capacities in Central Presbyterian Church here and in the Masonic lodge and various civic and social groups during his years in Paris.' *Tombstone is inscribed, 'Kent Abbett, 2nd Lt. 149th Infantry, 38th Division, WW I.' Married Francis Finnell.
