Marjorie G. Bassett, 95, of rural Vernon, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Bassett was born on Nov. 29, 1906, in Foster Township, Marion County, Illinois, the daughter of Oscar Lewis and Cora Alice (Campbell) Doolen. She lived her entire life in the Vernon area. She was a homemaker and former member of the Vernon United Methodist Church, and current member of the Patoka United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Marion County Home Extension and was very active in her church in Vernon and Patoka, serving on many committees. She married Mason "Peck" Bassett on Dec. 7, 1926, in Patoka. He died on Aug. 10, 1989.
She is survived by son, Richard Bassett of Salem; daughter, Bonnie and husband Frank Peyton-Pritchett of Illiopolis; sisters, Thelma Riley of Dennison, Kan. and Wanza Gramlick of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Margaret Bassett of Princeville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Mason Lewis Bassett; three brothers; and great-granddaughter, Allison M. Bassett.
