A memorial service for Sherman T. Allenson Jr., 58, of Tyler was held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Sherm Allenson passed away on Sept. 6, 2011, in Oklahoma while enjoying his favorite pastime of hiking in the wilderness.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1952, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Sherman T. Allenson Sr. and
Wilma J. Allenson. A 1971 graduate of Midland Lee High School, Sherm went on to
Texas A&M and earned a bachelor's degree in architecture followed by a master's degree in environmental design. He married his wife, Susan, in 1986 in Dallas.
In 1994, they moved to Florida to follow his dream of sailing the Florida Keys, Bahamas and Dry Tortugas as he worked as an architect. Among the many projects
he designed while living in Florida, he was particularly proud of his architectural contribution on the Mirasol Country Club Grand Clubhouse in Palm
Beach Gardens, home of the PGA Honda Classic. Sherm and Susan moved to Tyler in 2003 where he designed, built and operated Storage Plus and Pack Mail Ship until
they sold it in 2006. As a self-employed commercial architect he put his mark on numerous commercial buildings and homes in East Texas. He greatly enjoyed
spending his spare time jogging, hiking, backpacking and photographing.

Sherm Allenson is survived by his loving wife; mother, of Tyler; brother, of Richmond; sister, of Round Rock; nieces and nephews.

CIMARRON COUNTY, OKLA. -- A 58-year-old Texas man was found dead by hikers near Black Mesa, Okla., Monday afternoon.

According to the Boise City News, Sherman, T. Allenson, Jr., 58, of Tyler, Texas was found deceased as hikers returned from the summit. He was found one mile from the trail head.

The death appears to be from natural causes and foul play is not suspected, the Cimarron County Sheriff's Office said. When he was found it appeared as if he had been dead for some time.
