On June 19, 2011, Robert H. Arnholt departed this world to join our heavenly father at the age of 92 years old.
He was born April 28, 1919, near Loudonville, Ohio, where he was raised. He was a 1941 graduate of Miami University of Ohio. He had held a commercial pilot's license and instructor rating since 1940.
He served with Pan American Airways during its involvement with setting up a series of air bases across Africa. Pan American was commissioned in 1941 by President Roosevelt to transport the people and cargo. Pan American had to build not just the airways, but the communities and bridges to complete/maintain these airstrips. At the time, this involvement was not well known for security reasons. (After Pan American, he stayed in the Navy Reserve as a flight instructor and pilot. He retired from the Navy Reserve as a lieutenant commander in 1979.)
In 1946 he returned to Loudonville to work with his father, Albert, in the family poultry business. He continued to teach flying in Mansfield, Ohio. In 1959, he began flying for Richland Aviation Inc. in Mansfield.
In 1966 he became chief pilot for Cooper-Bessmer and transferred with them when they became Cooper Industries to Houston, where he was head of its aviation department as well as its chief pilot until he retired in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane, and son, Gary.
He will be cremated and laid to rest in Loudonville, Ohio, at a future date. Memorials may be made in his honor to his church, Joyful Beginnings Lutheran Church, 1521 Rice Road, K-102, Tyler, 75703.
