Kathleen (GLAZE) ABLES, "Kitty" to all who knew and loved her, was the daughter of Wiley and Kathleen GLAZE of Austin, Texas. Kitty chose her nickname from the "Kitty Higgins" comic strip that ran in the newspaper when she was a child.
Kitty graduated from Austin High School in 1945. She then attended the University of Texas in Austin where she earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Business Administration in 1949 and 1954, respectively. She was a member of the University A Cappella Choir, the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and the University Methodist Church.
On September 12, 1959, Kitty married Luther Robert "Bob" ABLES, a Profesaor in the Department of History at the University of Texas at Austin. Together they were the proud parents of one son and one daughter.
A 30-year employee of the University of Texas, Kitty served in the Department of Music, the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School, the Department of History, the Department of Romance Languages, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Performing Arts Center.
