Birth: Mar. 17, 1886
Barcelona
Cataluna, Spain
Death: Nov. 22, 1944
Buenos Aires, Argentina

Domingo Prat was born in Barcelona on 17. March 1886. His father Tomás Prat was an amateur guitarrist. He studied his beloved instrument with Miguel Llobet among other prominent guitarists. In 1904 he settled in Argentina. He's remembered for introducing here the so-called Tarrega's School, but above all for writing the most complete Dictionary of Guitarrists ever known (1934). He was along with the Argentinian Julio Sagreras the most important guitarist in Buenos Aires in the first half of the 20th Century. In the 1960's and 1970's I had the honor to study guitar with his widow, Carmen Farré de Prat, who told me a lot of anecdotes refered to her husband. Prat opened a Conservatory in Haedo (Buenos Aires metropolitan area) where he taught guitar to a great number of pupils and where he set his home too. So when he died after an apoplexy stroke on 22nd. November 1944, he was buried in the Cementerio de Morón next to Haedo.
