Ultman Jergins was born in Rodanier, Prussia in 1789.
The date and place of his arrival in the United States is unknown. He was a house painter and carpenter who performed extensive work in Austin, Texas on the original capitol building. Receipts exist for the pay that he received. On those receipts, his name is spelled several different ways, but his name on his tombstone is Ultman Jergins. Ultman Jergins and his family qualify as one of the original pioneer families in Walker County, Texas.
The name of his first wife is unknown. She was born in about 1800 in the state of Tennessee. She was the mother of Ultman's children, all born in the state of Alabama.
Mary Jane Jergins was born in 1822.
John Henry Jergins was born about 1823.
William Alexander Jergins was born about 1825.
Jessie Jerome Jergins was born about 1826.
Lucinda "Lucy" Vance Jergins was the daughter of William and Milly Vance and the second wife of Ultman Jergins. Lucinda and Ultman were married in about 1849 in North Carolina. Lucinda is buried beside Ultman in Oakwood Cemetery, Huntsville, Walker County Texas
