Mariner Shelby Brown was born August 29, 1893, in a little log cabin on a ranch in Fairview, Wyoming, to Ezra Brown Sr. and Sarah Ann Neville Brown. They lived in Fairview for about two and 1/2 years, after which the ranch was sold and they moved to Woodruff, Utah. Sarah Neville Brown passed away February 18, 1895 when Mariner was only 18 months old. He was raised by a dear step-mother (and aunt) Sophia Neville Huffaker Brown.
As a young boy, Mariner can well remember attending a circus in Evanston, Wyoming, where he saw Buffalo Bill Cody, a great western scout. Mariner was educated in the public schools of Woodruff. After completion of school, he worked on his father's ranch and was employed on other ranches of the surrounding area. He especially remembers working on the old famous Neponsit Ranch, which is now the Deseret Land and Livestock. He served on the board of directors of the Woodruff Irrigation Company and was a board member for the Woodruff Stock association. He was instrumental in helping plan, organize and complete two reservoirs on Woodruff Creek. He also served a term on the board of directors for Federal Land Bank. He married Mae Richards on April 12, 1916. They are the parents of six children, Helen Mae, George Mariner, Mary Louise, Sarah Eileen, Lawrence Richards and Kenneth Richards.
He was chosen as King of the Woodruff Centennial Celebration on July 4, 1970 with his sister Sarah Brown Eastman as the Queen.
He passed away Jun 27, 1985 in Springville, Utah and is buried in the Woodruff, Utah cemetery.
