Marjorie Ada Childs Chase Johnson, age 96, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the Carrollton Nursing Center, Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born April 11, 1906 in rural DeWitt, Missouri to the late Samuel Lewis Childs and Alena Crenshaw, the oldest of three children.
She attended the DeWitt School and married William Roger Chase of Blackwater, Missouri in 1931. To this union four children were born. They moved to Robertson, Missouri near St. Louis in 1936. After William died in 1945, she went to work for the Scudder School District (later it was re-named Ferguson-Florrissant)where she worked for 35 years.
Later she married Leland H. Johnson and they moved back to the rural DeWitt area. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Samuel & Alena Childs; two brothers, Samuel, Jr. and Robert A. Childs III; two children, William R. Chase, Jr. and Martha Sue Rogers; one granddaughter, Tabetha Chase.
She loved cooking and gardening before her health failed. She was "Big Mama" to scores of people.
She leaves to mourn her passing, two children, Allie M. Thomas, Billy G. Chase, both of rural Carrollton, Missouri; nine grandsons, Tyrone Terrance, Juan, Garland and Michael Chase; Kelven, Keith, Kelly and Kris (Laura) Dunlap; ten great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, and many, many friends.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Virginia Street Baptist Church, 109 S. Virginia St., Carrollton MO. Services at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the church. Burial will be in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, Missouri.
