"Sam Puppy" Armstrong
Sam was a tan and white beagle with a pink nose and about the smartest dog you ever saw. We got him when he was 3 days old and had him for 15 wonderful years. He only weighed 11 ounces and fit in the palm of your hand and had to be bottle fed. His mother was hit by a car and thrown into a snow drift. Before dying she had 2 pups, the first rolled from under her body and froze to death. Sam was under her body but was in sad shape. The owners of the mother didn't want the pup and no one else wanted to take on the job of caring for him and trying to save his life. My wife and I spent many hours and days nursing him back to health and we never regretted our efforts. He showed his love for us for 15 years and when he died the vet cried and said he never saw an animal fight so hard to live.
Sam was so smart. We named every toy (and he had many) and when you told him what to get, he would get it. He had balls of all colors and they say dogs are color blind but not Sam, he would bring the color you wanted. Some how, he knew the difference. He had a music box that we called "his sing-sing). He would lay with his paws around the sing-sing and sing along with the music. When you talked to him he would tilt his head from left to right like he knew every thing you said, which I am sure he did. Everyone wrapped Christmas presents for the joy of seeing him unwrap them.
He loved to travel and ride in the car. He traveled with us all around the country. He was in California, Vegas, Florida and most states in between. In later years he had to have all his teeth removed but he kept his tongue inside his mouth, it never hung out. He loved spaghetti, spaghetti o's and baked beans which were very easy for him to eat. Any other food we cut up for him to eat and mashed his hard treats.
He loved to ride in our boat and also rode on our snowmobile. He loved to go camping. Sam puppy was a very special "boy" and we will never forget him. Someday we will be reunited. He is loved and missed so much.
A special thank you to Judy & Becky for sponsoring Sam's memorial page. Your kindness is appreciated.
