Abe L. Aaronson, 91, an allergist and educator who practiced medicine until two years ago, died Sunday in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
A Lake View resident, he had offices in the Loop and at Foster and California.
His research in the field of allergies appeared in more than 30 medical journals and other publications over the years. From 1947 to 1978, he was chief of allergy at Mount Sinai and Chicago Medical School.
He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Chicago in his childhood. He attended the former McKinley High School and Crane Junior College. He earned a medical degree from the University of Illinois and held a master's degree in chemistry. He completed his internship at Cook County Hospital. Dr. Aaronson was in the Army during World War II. He served in New Guinea and was a major when he was discharged.
Dr. Aaronson was former president of the Chicago Allergy Society and officer with the Mount Sinai medical staff. As a past president and executive director of Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity, he was instrumental in developing a scholarship fund to aid struggling medical students.
Surviving are two sons, Donald and Neil; a sister, Esther Marks; seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
