Mr. G. Wayne McKinney, the only child of the late Junius Franklin McKinney and Fola Dowdy McKinney, was a lifelong resident of the High Point, NC area. Mr. McKinney served in management of the Colonial and Big Star Grocery Store chain for many years, later working for the NAPA Auto Parts Corporation. Wayne was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in High Point and was a regular and proud participant in "Lets Talk Cars" every Thursday night on South Main Street in High Point, NC. He also fervently enjoyed model trains and model train landscaping. Wayne will be remembered for his great sense of humor, tireless wit and his profound gift of storytelling.

Surviving are his wife, Monette Dawkins McKinney and two sons: Daren McKinney and Kent McKinney and wife Sherry (Mrs. Kent McKinney) of Jamestown, NC. There are three grandchildren; Enoch McKinney and wife Ashley, Sydney and Jake McKinney and two great grandchildren: Logan and Bo McKinney. Also surviving are his Aunts, Juanita McKinney, Colleen Parrish, and Margaret Arnold, all of the High Point area, as well as sister Carol McKinney (Mrs. John Barneycastle)and newphews John-Michael and Chris Barneycastle.

Also mourning his passing are many cousins including Kenneth B. Parrish and wife Betsy and son Kevin of Winston-Salem, NC; Larry K. Sykes and wife, JoAnn, Kathryn Denyse Sykes and Kimberly Dawn Sykes-Long, Harrison Long and Houston Long, all of South Carolina; J. H. Ruppert III, Gregory A. Ruppert and Wife Barbara, Melissa A. Ruppert Jessen and husband Walter, Dietrich Walter Jessen III, Johanna Ruppert Jessen, K. Jacob Ruppert, all of Louisiana, and Jason K. Ruppert and wife Jennifer of San Jose, CA.

Memorial services for Mr. McKinney were conducted June 19, 2009 at Christ United Methodist Church of High Point with the Reverend Dr. Perry Miller officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Western Piedmont Speak Easy, c/o Nancy Reynolds, 2919 Camp Circle, Winston-Salem, NC 27106-5002.
