Gene "Great" Adams, 80, of Richmond, KY, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Lexington VA Medical Center, Lexington, KY. Gene was born October 21, 1931, the son of the late Lowren and Cecil Mae Adams of Richmond, KY.
Mr. Adams played football for the Madison High School "Royal Purples", where he played the position of halfback. Gene was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan and enjoyed attending football games at Eastern Kentucky University. He also was an accomplished carpenter. Gene loved family, friends, and God. In his later years, his passion was for researching Adams family history and Madison County.
Gene is survived by his children: Lynn Adams, Cincinnati, OH; Tad (Tami) Adams, Hamilton, OH; David "Chip" Adams, and Brian "Doug" Adams, niece: Karen Woolum, Richmond, KY; great-nephew: Kristoffer (Janice) Woolum, Lexington, KY; and his long-time companion: Judy Walters, Richmond, KY.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Rose, and infant brother, Harold Adams.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Madison Hills Christian Church with visitation from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Bro. Marty Frazer will be officiating the service with burial to follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Lexington VA Medical Center -
