CHRISTOPHER L. ATKINSON - Once more the angel of death has descended on the village of Wauzeka and called away an elderly citizen of Crawford County.
Christopher L. Atkinson was born in Richland Co. Wisconsin, Nov 19, 1862, and passed away on Feb. 24, 1945, at the home of his son Harry after several weeks' illness. He had reached the age of 82 years. On Nov. 23, 1892, he was united in marriage to Anna Olson of Tavera, Wis. Nine children, seven boys and two girls, were born to this union, of whom one son Robert and one daughter Gladys, preceded him in death. His wife and helpmate also preceded him to that great beyond. His childhood and early manhood were spent in Richland Co. In 1905 he moved with his family to a farm on Harris Ridge where he resided for 18 years. He then moved to the village of Wauzeka, where he lived until his departure. Chris as he was known to old and young won many friends during his many years in Crawford County; He was an esteemed neighbor and was loved most by those who knew him best. Looking back over the past, he took an active part in every project that was a benefit to the Community and exerted every effort to make it a success. He served as justice of the peace in Wauzeka for many years and was also a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge. Those who live to mourn his death are one daughter, Vivian (Mrs. Eldon Boyd) of Concrete, Wash.; six sons, John, Harry and Thomas of Wauzeka, Clarence of Muscoda, Fred of Prairie du Chien and Raymond, somewhere, in Belgium; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Wardell, of Linden, and Mrs. Etta Brown of Blackberry, Minn.; one brother, George of Watertown; 21 grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at the home of. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Atkinson and at 1:30 p.m. in the Wauzeka Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. F. W. Landdeck. Interment was made in Sand Prairie cemetery.
