Earl E. Alford Dies in Idaho
Earl E. Alford, president and owner of Alford's Inc., local Dodge-Plymouth
dealer, died unexpectedly early Sunday at Rexburg, Ida., a small community near
Idaho Falls. His body is being returned here by train.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Colonial mortuary, with the services set
tentatively for 1 p.m. Thursday. Imperial lodge, AF&AM, will be in charge.
Alford left Portland on May 12 by plane on a vacation trip, accompanied by his
wife and Mr. and Mrs. H. Littlefield, close friends. The Littlefields took
delivery on a new automobile in Detroit. The quartet then drove to New York
city. They were en route home and had stopped at Rexburg for the night when
Alford suddenly became ill and died from a heart attack.
Alford was born in Columbia, Wash., a town which no longer exists. It was not
far from Marysville. He was graduated from Willamette University and had been in
the automotive business here for around 30 years. In 1935 he was president of
Portland Automotive Trades association. He also was a member of Oregon
Automobile Dealers association, the Automobile Dealers Association of Portland,
Leaders Club, Portland Golf club and was a Shriner.
Survivors are his wife, Marie; son, Gerald E., Portland; daughter, Mrs. Eleanor
Hoffman, Long Beach, Cal., and four grandchildren.
