Mr. Godwin was a devoted member of Shady Grove Original Freewill Baptist Church. He was an active deacon and former Chairman of the Deacon Board, former Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, former Building Fund Treasurer, and was instrumental in the origination of the Shady Grove
Outreach Radio Program, also former member of the Board of Directors of the Ayden Freewill Baptist Press.
Mr. Godwin served as the Assistant Vice President of First Citizens Bank & Trust Company for 38 years in Dunn and was an amateur photographer. He was the Co-Founder and President of the National Hollering Contest, Inc. in Spivey's Corner. Mr. Ermon Godwin was also a long standing Mason and Past Master in 1960 of the Mingo Lodge No. 206. He was a past member of the Scottish Right, Past President and member of the Dunn Shiner's and was also awarded Man of the Year by the Dunn Shiner's Club. He was a charter member of The Dunn Clowns and also a member and Past President
of the Dunn Kiwanis Club. Mr. Godwin was also the Founder and a Past President of the Dunn Investment Club and a member for 30 years. He was the Founder of the Cape Fear Amateur Radio Club and also a former member of the Spivey's Corner Lions Club. He was the Past President and a member of the Sampson County Historical Society. He held a seat as a Board Member and Past President of the Sampson County Department of Social Services. Mr. Godwin was also a former Board Member of the Department of North Carolina Travel and Tourism. Former Governor Bob Scott awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine to Mr. Godwin for his contributions to the promotion of North Carolina.
