Joseph Charles Alexander
On August 29, 1934 a star called Joseph was born. That star shined brightly like a diamond in the sky. But then on Sunday, March 29, 2009, that star went home to be with the Lord leaving a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Alexander, mother, Winifred Alexander, and sister, Cora B. Moore, and step daughter Carolyn LeFlore. He was born in South Bend, Indiana to Winifred and Joe Alexander. He attended South Bend Central High School and joined the Air Force in 1951 at the age of 17. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was stationed at different bases around the world. He served for 16 years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received an honorable discharge in 1967. Upon leaving the military he went to work for Harvard Industries in Albion, Michigan and retired after a number of years. He was an avid music lover and collector, and enjoyed fishing on the many lakes in Michigan. Joseph leaves to cherish his memories his wife Aslean, two sons, Charles Joseph Alexander of Inglewood, California, and Jermaine Gray of Houston, Texas. He also leaves thirteen step grandchildren, Jessie Gray and Geraldine Anderson both of Albion, Tessie Taylor and Meddie Anderson both of Houston, Texas, Ruthie Atchison of Florida, and Jackie Gray of Battle Creek, Michigan; as well as James Cole, Emmitt Cole, Robert Cole and Kathryn Cole all of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Tammy Smith, Amy Smith and Tony Smith all of Battle Creek, Michigan. In addition, he leaves his adoring niece Glenda Buchanan of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and dear friend, Marcus McKinney of Battle Creek, Michigan. He also leaves a host of other relatives including numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends, who all loved and will miss him dearly.

Funeral Service was held 12:00 PM Friday, April 3, 2009, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, with Reverend Charlie Jones officiating. Interment: Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM same day of service at the funeral home.
