Shirley J. Maylott Abbate, 72, of Enfield, widow of Michael F. Abbate Sr., who died May 17, 2005, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on April 19, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital. Shirley was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield April 17, 1934; she was the daughter of the late Russell and Mary (Higginbotham) Maylott. She was a lifelong resident of the community and member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Michael F. Abbate, Jr., and David S. Abbate both of Enfield, two daughters, Cheryl Abbate-Ekenbarger and her husband William, Jr. of Enfield, Pamela Abbate and her fiance Joseph Patalik of Enfield, a sister Bernice Such and her husband Stanley of Enfield; a grandson Jacob M. Ekenbarger of Enfield; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. She is also survived by two special people who were part of her life Ellen and Jim Balbi of East Windsor; and two very close friends and neighbors Debra and Scott Giddings of Enfield. She was also predeceased by four brothers Ronald, Norman, Frank and Russell Maylott. Interment will follow at Enfield Street Cemetery.
