Marion A. Baker was born in Pensacola in 1833
and died in New Orleans in 1908. He was, among
other things, the City Editor of the Times
Picayune in New Orleans, and later he was
the Literary Editor. He had 4 brothers and
2 sisters, one of the sisters was Cora ...
He was first married to Mary T. Young and
had two children one son, Shelby and one daughter
named Cora. He remarried in 1866 to a noted
Louisiana autheress named Julia K. Wetherill.
Marion Baker was also the private secretery
to the mayor of New Orleans during the Civil
War and in fact composed and negtiated the
surrender of New Orleans.
