John Wesley Harding, the oldest of 9 children born 3 February 1856 in Bancroft (Montrose), Henry Co., MO to Jamse Madison Harding (1835-1882) and Sarah Elizabeth Hatfield (1837-1919).
In December, 1882, James married IDA SINGLETON (my husband's grand-aunt) and proceeded to have 5 children:
(1) Harry Harding (1884-1910);
(2) Bertha F. Harding Cook (1888-?);
(3) Clara Ida Harding Evans (1892-1976));
(4) Pearl Frances Harding Sheffield (1897-1963); and
(5) John Wesley Harding, Jr. (1902-?).
John died from carcinoma of the intestine at the age of 67 at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri on 5 June 1923. The informant on the death certificate was an "N. Q. Cook" - which we presume to be a grandchild.
John's wife, Ida Singleton Harding, my husband's grand-aunt, died in 1940 in Pinellas County, Florida, while living with her daughter Clara Ida Harding Evans. It appears that her body was brought back to Illinois to be laid beside her husband, John Harding,who had died 17 years earlier.
We would love to communicate with any descendants of this family.
