Arthur P. Booth, 97, of Chanute, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Heritage Health Care Center, Chanute, Kansas.

He was born Dec. 8, 1907, in Yates Center, Kansas, the son of William H. and Gertrude (Taylor) Booth.

He attended schools in Yates Center and Iola. He graduated from Yates Center High School and attended Iola Junior College. He was an accomplished athlete in football, basketball and track.

In 1930 he married Inez Clark. She died in 1977. In 1979 he married Velma Arnold. She died in 1987.

He spent most of his adult life in Chanute. He was the manager of the Star Drilling Machine Company until his retirement.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and enjoyed bowling, dancing, poker and travel.

Survivors include two daughters, Terry Goodnough, of Dodge City, KS, and Rosalynd Montgomery, of Chanute, KS; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild.

Services will be Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the funeral home, led by the Rev. Larry Myers. Burial will follow in Neosho County Memorial Park, Chanute, KS.

Memorials to the Castaways Animal Shelter or a charity of the donor's choice may be sent to the funeral home.

Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Chanute, is in charge of arrangements.
