Cleo was my step-grandmother, but she was more of a "real" grandma than my own flesh and blood grandma. Grandma Cleo was very kind and had a cheerful outlook on life. Considering how hard her life was, she was truly remarkable, never complaining, always upbeat and pleasant to be around. She never had children of her own, so she spoiled me, my brother and baby sister.
In later years, she became ill and her legs had to be amputated. I was scared to death to go and see her, because I didn't know what to say. As soon as I walked in, she was her usual self, chipper and cheerful and put me at ease.
When she got her prosthetic legs, her comment was that she'd always wanted to be taller, and they made her a few inches taller!!! Her glass was always half full. I admire her so very much.
