Alfred was born to Andrew (Andy) Brown and Carrie Belle Crain near Woodston, Rooks Co. KS. He grew up with his siblings, Charles, Chalmer, Calvin (Cal) and Albert. He attended grade school at Igo and Survey Schools.
Alfred and his brother Calvin went to Yuma Co, CO in 1909 and each applied for a patent on a 320 acre homestead. 1912, Calvin went back to KS. and Albert took over the homestead. Their property was partially beside each other. They installed a gate onto the county road so they could go back and forth easily. Their brother Charlie came in 1913 and got a homestead near Happyville, CO. Through Charlie's neighbor, D.C Brown and Ella Norman, Alfred met their daughter Mary Alta Brown and they were married Mar. 28th, 1913 at the home of her parents.
Alfred and Mary Alta, moved back to KA and their son Walter Andrew Brown was born in 1917. Walter died on Apr. 13th, 1919 and his mother Mary died Oct. 5th 1921, they are both buried in the Survey Cemetery.
Alfred F Brown and Hazel Dell Thornberry were married on Dec. 29th, 1928 at Smith Center, KS. Two children were born to this union, Eulalia Bettina Brown b. 1931 and Leonard Leon Brown b. 1935.
Alfred farmed south of Woodston and also sold Rawleigh Products, he was a very good salesman. They moved to Hotchkiss, Co, where Hazel's sister and a brother lived. Next move was to Dragerton, UT, where Alfred worked in the coal mines. They moved back to Stockton, KS where they were living at the time of Alfred's death. Alfred was a favorite with all his brothers and also his father who helped him get a start on his homestead in Yuma, CO.
