Lloyd John "Bink" Banaka, 88, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

He was born January 28, 1923, in Netawaka, KS, a son of the late Henry W. and Louise (Klahr) Banaka. On December 22, 1944, in Bellflower, CA, he married Betty R. Barnes, his wife of 59 years, who preceded him in death on July 26, 2003.

He was a 1941 graduate of Holton High School in Holton, KS. He went to work for Prudential Insurance Company in 1952. He was a top salesman, winning numerous national awards for sales and service. He was also a staff manager, training consultant, and in 1967, was named district manager, overseeing offices in Columbia, Jefferson City, Marshall, Sedalia, and several other Mid-Missouri communities. After retiring from Prudential in 1977, he was co-founder and co-owner of Sedalia Outdoor Sports & Bass Pro Shop on Hwy 65 South in Sedalia. He retired from Sedalia Outdoor Sports, Inc., May 5, 1995.

While working for Prudential, he was very active in community affairs and organizations. He served as Chairman for Pettis County United Way, was a board member for the Sedalia Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial Development Board. He was an active supporter of The Salvation Army, and held memberships in the Sedalia Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Walnut Hills Country Club and the Sedalia Country Club. He was also instrumental in helping bring the first 911 service to the Sedalia community.

He was a loving and providing husband and father. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and playing golf. He also enjoyed attending University of Missouri athletic events, family events, woodworking, and doing his own landscaping. He loved the numerous dogs that were his pets over the years.

He is survived by one sister, Joanne Crosby, of Oklahoma City, OK; two daughters, Sandra Crnic, and her husband, Gary, of Russell, KS, and Janet Nail, and her husband, Gary, of Springfield, MO; a son, Greg Banaka, and his wife, Robin, of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Tracy Crnic, Tarrie Crnic, James Nail, and his wife, Beth, Marti Blaine, and her husband, Ryan, Lindsey (Banaka) Branson, and her husband, Fred, Ashley (Banaka) Albrecht, and her husband, Philip; and four great grandchildren, Spencer Blaine, Parker Blaine, James Nail and Julia Nail.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services were at 10 am, Saturday, November 5, 2011, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Rick Adams officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Schmidt, Glenn Waggoner, James Nail, Fred Branson, Philip Albrecht and Jack Osborn. Entombment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.

The family received friends 6-8 pm, Friday, November 4, at the funeral chapel.
