He was the son of William Lewis and Mary F. "Polly" Criss Allison who came to Suwannee County, Florida, from Yalobusha County, Mississippi, as a large group of relatives in 6 covered wagons about 1858. He was married to Araminta Vashti Chambliss and they were the parents of 12 children, including a daughter, Araminta Burchfield Allison.
He served as a blacksmith for the Confederate Army in the Home Guard and was a blacksmith as a civilian with a shop in Live Oak, Suwannee County, Florida.
