Charles E. "Lucky" Akins, 80, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Ken Holmes, associate pastor of Arden Road Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Akins was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Anadarko, Okla., to Cora and Admiral Wesley Akins. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Akins was a truck driver for H.T. Gross, Dwight Cheek and Scrap Processing. He was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church.
He married Dorothy Britton on July 18, 1943, in Canyon.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Dodd, in 1993; a son, Edward Lee Akins, on Nov. 25, 1998; and a granddaughter, Sarah Jane Akins, on Nov. 3, 1996.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dorothy O. Akins of Amarillo; three sons, Thomas R. Akins and wife Kathy of Hesperia, Calif., Jay W. Akins of Amarillo and Edward Charles Akins and wife Donielle of Levelland; two daughters, D. Denice Stout and Cindy Sue Bussey, both of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren, Anna Braxton, Kim E. Venable and husband Steve, Thomas R. Akins Jr., Kristi Lynn Akins, Michael Stout, Michelle Stout, Jay Wesley Akins II and wife Cori, Christopher James Akins, Brittni Nicole "Nikki" Akins, Jessica Elaine Akins, Denise C. Bussey, Dale Bussey, Jenalee S. Akins and Kailee A. Akins; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Kevin Bussey of Amarillo.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Arden Road Baptist Church, 6701 Arden Road, Amarillo, TX 79109.
