IRON MOUNTAIN — George E. Anderson Sr., 57, of 1621 Parkview Drive in Iron Mountain, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on April 20, 1949, in Norway, son of the late E. William and Lucile (Tracy) Anderson. He was a lifelong resident of the area and as a child, George enjoyed many summers with his family at Spread Eagle, Wis.
He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1967. He attended the University of Tampa and later graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in business and economics.
George married Boofer Meneghini on July 21, 1973, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway. He was a wonderful husband and father, and a good, loyal friend to many. Anyone who knew him loved his tremendous sense of humor and wit. He loved spending time with his family at Spread Eagle. George enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, golf and water skiing. He was vice president and the chief administrative officer at MJ Electric in Iron Mountain. George was a member of Pine Grove Country Club, the Chippewa Club, 6-7-8, and AA, which he was very proud of.
He is survived by his wife, Boofer; two children; George (Carla) Anderson of Kingsford and Martha (Mark) Wolff of Norway; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Nicholas, and Lily Chapman; one brother, William (Linda) Anderson of Plymouth and one sister, Martha Anderson Torlak of Chicago; a nephew, William (Amy) Anderson; nieces, Tracy (Brian) Rosewarne and Katherine Anderson and fiance John Sytniak; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Meneghini; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Maxine Meneghini, Lee and Marge Meneghini, Lynne and Charles Wiethoff, Monica and Alan Erickson, Neil and Karen Meneghini, Mark and Pam Meneghini and Elise and Richard Hermsen; numerous nieces and nephews; and his very special friend, Stephen J. Reiten.
In addition to his parents, E. William Anderson and Lucile (Tracy) Anderson, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Edwin C. Meneghini and a very special young woman, Jennifer VanOss.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Rev. Michael March will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Reiten, Kevin Sullivan, Marc Mogan, David Sand, Richard Ring and Michael Horton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Relief Fund.
