ANDOVER TWP. - William Barker Pattison, 82, of Andover Township, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
Born in Orange on Dec. 27, 1931, Bill was the son of the late Henry O. Pattison Jr. and Mary Alice (Davison) Pattison.
He grew up in Summit before graduating from Darrow School in June of 1951. He then attended Dartmouth College during the 1951-1952 school year, before being drafted into the Army in June 1952, where he served during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant. He married Charlotte "Cece" Cabrera on April 4, 1953. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rutgers University in 1958.
Bill was a longtime resident of Sussex County where he helped his parents establish Blind Brook Farm in 1954. He later moved to the farm with his family in 1967.
Bill worked in advertising for 25 years. He began at Cunningham & Walsh and then continued his career at Ogilvy & Mather from 1960 to 1980, where he eventually became a vice president. He retired in 1980 to open Newton True Value Hardware. He also owned and operated an Invisible Fence franchise in Sussex County.
Bill was an active member of the Hampton Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a former member and past president of the Andover Township Board of Education. He also was a former trustee of Newton Memorial Hospital, now Newton Medical Center. He loved his family, working on his farm, caring for his cats and dogs, music and was a 60-year New York Giants Football season ticket holder.
Bill is survived by his wife, Cece; his brothers, Peter, Michael and Robert; his children, John "Jack" Pattison and wife, Sherry, of Bondurant, Iowa, David Pattison, of Bloomfield, and Kathy Pattison and husband, Dave Strickler, of Boston, Mass.; and his grandchildren, Samuel, Andrew, Mary, Hailey and Grayson.
A memorial viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
