Roy Franklin Hayton, age 70, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 23, 2006.
He was of the Church of God faith and recognized that all that is good in this life comes from God the Creator.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Cleo Hayton; one sister, Willie Sanders; three brothers, Kenneth Hayton, Coy Hayton and Foy Hayton (twins), who died in infancy; and a grandson, Matthew Adam Counts, who also died in infancy.
Roy was an honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War and served three years in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the Holston River Coon Club and the Saltville Beagle Club. While holding the office of president of each club, he worked diligently to serve and improve both. Roy was a retired construction superintendent and enjoyed farming, being a farmer at heart.
He loved and enjoyed his family and he had many friends and relatives that he loved dearly.
Roy's survivors include his wife and caregiver, Mary Lulabelle Harris Hayton; two sons, Robert (Bobby) Hayton of Saltville and Travis Keith Hayton of Bristol Virginia; three daughters, Santha and husband Jimmy Counts of Meadowview, Cherrie Hayton of Saltville and Monica Mechele and husband Robert (Buster) Perkins of Seven Mile Ford; six sisters, Evelyn Olinger of Sussex, N.J., Stella Ann Williams of Bridgeton, N.J., Dorothy Call of Saltville, Peggy Cardwell of Chilhowie, Nellie Ward of Fincastle and Betty P. Anderson of Meadowview; two grandsons, Wesley Maloyed and Roy Lee Perkins; four granddaughters, Jodi Counts, Christie Maloyed, Heather Moore and Courtney Counts; four great-granddaughters, Bailey Kinder, Jordon Mathis, Elizabeth Jade Mathis and Brittani Vanhoozer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, with the Rev. Shirley Carter and the Rev. Roby Hayden officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the doctors and staff at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Hospital in Mountain Home, Tenn., the doctors and staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Amedisys Home Health Services, Hospice of Southwest Virginia, the Glade Spring Rescue Squad, D.R. Henderson Funeral Home and Blackwell's Chapel Church members, as well as special friends, Marvin Hayden Sr., Marvin Ray Hayden Jr., Clarence Coe, Bill Harris, Christin Dutton, McKinley Osborne, Gregg Helton, Tom Buskill, R.B. Henderson, Bobby Frye and all who have contributed food and/or flowers. Most of all, we sincerely thank each and every individual who offered up prayers for our loved one and his family.
Pallbearers include Rocky Puckett, Tracy Puckett, Robert (Beardy) Maloyed, Landon Mathis, Justin McGlothlin and James Prater.
Honorary pallbearers include Bobby Kestner, Jimmy Counts, Robert (Buster) Perkins, Mark Warren, Joe Campbell, and Rodney Humphrey.
