Birth: Sep. 17, 1837
Belmont County
Ohio, USA
Death: Jul. 26, 1862, USA

William DeLong was 24 years of age on 18 November 1861 and at Camp Gilbert, Zanesville, Ohio when he enlisted for 3 years of service in the Union Army. He served as a Corporal in Company K of the 78th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He died on 26 July 1862 possibly in Bolivar, Hardeman County, Tennessee, United States of America or possibly in Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi, United States of America.

William DeLong's brother Thomas DeLong was 20 years of age on 18 November 1861 and at Camp Gilbert, Zanesville, Ohio when he enlisted for 3 years of service in the Union Army. He served as a Private in Company K of the 78th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. He died on 17 June 1862 possibly in Shiloh, Hardin County, Tennessee, United States of America or possibly in Bolivar, Hardeman County, Tennessee, United States of America.

According to a man at Shiloh Battlefield, Thomas DeLong and his brother William DeLong fought at Shiloh; the battle was in April of 1862, so the brothers could have died from wounds suffered in the battle. There is no record of the brothers being buried there, and it is unlikely that they would have been buried as "unidentified." Further research will need to be done to locate the final resting places of the brothers.
