Harriet “Lucille” Cole, 98, of
Independence, MO passed away Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Rosewood Health
Center at The Groves in Independence. Mrs. Cole was born May 19, 1916 in Ewing,
WY, to Horace and Zadie Hartshorn. She attended Graceland College and received a
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the Central Missouri State
University. Mrs. Cole received her Masters in Education at the University of
Missouri-Kansas City in 1966. She taught elementary school at Tom Korte
Elementary in Kansas City until her retirement in 1981. Mrs. Cole was preceded
in death by her husband Clifford, her parents and her brother Lewis Hartshorn.
She is survived by her daughter Alethea Allen and her husband Justus, Las Vegas,
NV, Beverly Hilburn and husband Glenn, Blue Springs, MO and son Larry Cole and
wife Phyllis, Blue Springs, MO; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren,
and two great, great grandchildren, her sisters Jean George, Independence, Grace
Witherell and husband Gale, Independence and many other loving relatives and
friends. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Lucile Cole was held at The
Groves Community of Christ, Independence. The family suggests contributions to
Outreach International.
