She went by her middle name, Ruth. She told her family that her full name was Vina Ruth Dolores Diane Lowe. Her mother named Harvey Lowe as her father and Ruth was given his surname. Her granddaughter Darlene Athey, through the use of autosomal DNA, discovered Ruth's true father in 2018. Ruth was the daughter of Sidney Denniston and Cora Alyne Roberts

Ruth was a vivacious brown eyed brunette. She was raised in Marceline, Missouri by her grandmother Mary FJ Imbler Roberts (whom she called Mawie) and later moved to Colorado, where she met and married Justin McInaney. They had two daughters, the oldest of which died at birth.

Ruth and her family lived for a number of years in Dallas, Texas and in 1959 moved to Boulder, Colorado with their daughter and her family. She helped raise four grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly and fondly remember the summer picnics up Left Hand Canyon. She was an artist as well as an accomplished baker. She made the most wonderful peach cobbler, sand cake, and other delights for her family.
