Mr. Howard E. Garner, age 83, of Maywood, Mo., died Sept. 3, 2012 in Country Aire Retirement Estates at Lewistown, Mo.
He was born August 19, 1929 in New Canton, Ill. a son of James L. and Lucy Saxbury Garner. He married Maxine C. Coleman in LaGrange, Mo., on Aug. 14, 1948. She died April 19, 1012.
When Howard and Maxine were first married he worked for a farmer in Novilty, Mo., later in the fall of 1952 he went to work for Electro Metals in Keokuk and in 1955 he traveled with King Brothers Circus for one year as head mechanic. After working for the circus he farmed, drove a school bus, did mechanic work and operated a saw mill. He later went to work for Prince Manufacturing in Quincy retiring in 1991. After retiring he worked part time at West Quincy Auto Auction. He was a member of the Lewis County Rescue Squad for several years and was a former member of the Eagles Club in Quincy. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, camping along the Mississippi river and boating and water skiing on the river.
Survivors include one son, Paul (Mary) Garner of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Marcia (Gary) Richmiller and Cheryl (Phillip) O'Neal both of Maywood; four grandson, Gary Michael Tournear of Durham, Mo., Dustin (Melissa) Tournear of Durham, Doug O'Neal of Maywood and Phil (Desirae) O'Neal of Monroe City; three granddaughters Melissa (Brent) Reiminger of Texas, Jennifer (Derek) Carter of Okla., and Christene (Jeremy) Crossan of Quincy; eighteen great grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene Garner of Ewing and Raymond Garner of Maywood, Wayne (Diane) Garner of Maywood and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one daughter Janet Garner in infancy.
Funeral services were held Sept 6, 2012 at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev. Elmer Hagood officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery in Durham, Mo. Visitation was held Thursday morning at the funeral home.
