Birth: Aug. 12, 1851, Germany
Death: Jan. 7, 1924

Death claimed one of our oldest settlers, when on January 7th Christ Gorsegner passed away at St. Joseph's hospital at Chippewa Falls. He had been taken ill on the preceding Thursday and taken to the hospital the same day, but the best medical skill and the prayers of his children were in vain. His Lord and Savior took him home.
Christ Gottlieb Gorsegner was born in Wisen Sea (written: Wißensee or Weissensee) Schlesien, Germany on Aug. 29, 1851*, where he grew to manhood. In 1871 he emigrated to the United States, landing at New York. A few weeks later he came to Wisconsin where he followed the trade of lumber grader in different parts of the state. In 1882 he moved to Kansas, remaining two years. On Oct. 4 1884 he was united in marriage to Marie Teuke at Marshfield, Wis, who preceded him in death ten years ago. To theme were born twelve children, two dying in infancy. They settled at Eau Claire. In 1885 they moved to Thorp and settled on the farm he occupied until his death. He was one of our pioneer citizens and will be greatly missed in the community. He leaves to morn, six sons and four daughters: Fred of Newark, N.J., Chris of Stanley, Mrs. Wm. Albert Buss of Thorp, Mrs. Herman Doege Jr. of Withee, William, Gustav, Carl, Elsie, and Emil of Thorp, an aged brother Wm. Gorsegner Sr. of Milwaukee and seventeen grand children. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church at Reseburg, Rev. A.C. Stapel officiating, Interment following in the Reseburg cemetery.

• Also on said document: Emmigrated from Hamburg on June 25, 1872 and Arrived in New York on the vessel, Silesia. • Declared: 12/20/1905 in Wausau

• Birthplace since 1945 has its name changed to Biale Bloto and is found in Poland, just north of Wroclaw
