Daniel Elisha Harris was born February 12, 1896, in Bloomfield, Missouri to the late Isaac Green Harris and Elizabeth Jane Murray Harris. He married Grace Trusty in December of 1912, when he was 16 1/2. They had three children: Evelyn Nadine, James (who died as an infant) and Theone Deloris. Daniel served in the US Army from July 1918 to May 1919 in France during World War I. Daniel and Grace divorced after he returned from the war. He married Anna Frances Edwards on October 9 1920 in Bloomfield, Missouri when he was 24 years old. They had seven children: Wanda Rochelle, Juanita Bernice (who died as a child from whooping cough), Lucille "Bobbie", Issac Junior "Harry", Jeweldeen, Donald Ray and Lester Leon "Heck". He was a sharecropper for Uncle Lee Warren from 1920 to 1922 in Dexter, Missouri. As a young man he broke wild horses with his stepbrother Tate Miller. In 1922 he and Annie moved to Herrin, Illinois where he worked as a coal miner from 1922 to 1925. In 1926 they moved to Flint, Michigan and he worked for General Motors, Chevrolet Division #4 from 1926 to 1952 when he retired. Daniel was licensed to preach the gospel and worked as a lay preacher from 1942 to 1958 in General Baptist Churches in Flint. The last sermon he preached was from 2 Chronicles Ch 7 Verse 14. His Bible was handed down to his grandson Michael Stephen Harris, Sr. He died April 23, 1958 in Flint at age 62. He was survived by his wife Annie (who died 12 years later to the date April 23, 1970), three sons, Isaac, Donald, Lester; five daughters, Evelyn, Theone, Wanda, Lucille, Jeweldeen, 26 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lela "Bob" Williams, Effie Elizabeth Warren, Emma Belle Trotter, and Mary Ellen Rippy. He was proceeded in death by his parents, three brothers James Oscar, Thomas William, David M; two sisters Jennie "Kittie" Trotter, Lula Jane Triplett; son James and daughter Juanita. The reading at his service was from Revelations Ch 14 Verse 13. The Hopewell Trio sang 'A Closer Walk with Thee' and 'Shut in with God'. Pallbearers were his nephews RB Warren, Dewayne Warren, Earl Harris, George Williams, Arthur Harris, and George Trotter.
