Elizabeth (Lib) Theodora Kennedy Baker, 84, passed away in Saturday April 6, 2013. Lib was born in Clinton NC. When she was very young her family moved to New Bern where she grew up. She attended Central School and graduated from Salem College with a degree in English in 1949. Lib was married to Dr. Giles Patterson Corey, M.D. of Greenville NC in 1951. After only a few years of a beautiful, loving marriage, he passed away in 1955.

Lib was an extremely caring daughter. She took her father, Ted Kennedy, into her home and looked after him until his death. During this time, she met and spent 28 years traveling and enjoying the companionship of Sam Hughes until his death in 1999. The last ten years of her life was spent with her daughter, Libby and her family in The chesapeake, a retirement community in Newport News VA.

Lib was a member of First Presbyterian Church of New Bern and attended Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton VA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Edith Kennedy and her brother, Jimmy Kennedy. She is survived by her children, Cindy Sherratt and her husband Bill of Raleigh, Gil Baker and his wife Becky of Charlotte, Libby Garrett ands her husband Greg of Yorktown VA and Rosalie Fuller of New Bern, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Lib was a teacher and an artist and loved to dance and sing. Most of all, she was a wonderful and devoted mother and grandmother. Lib continued to fight Parkinson's for over 25 years and was determined to not let it prevent her from loving life and everyone around her until the very end. She was an inspiration to everyone she came in contact . She was an example of perseverance in her dedication to exercise at Courts Plus, the YMCA and at her retirement community. She lived life to the fullest and taught her children by example how to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To our beloved mother, thank you for living your life by example. You are forever in our hearts and prayers.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday May 18, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in New Bern. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
