OBITUARY: Mary Austin Thomasson was born November 9, 1920 in Durant, Oklahoma to Lewis Adolphus and Lula O'Riley Austin. Mary moved to Dallas in 1939 to attend St. Paul Hospital School of Nursing, where during her senior year she met her future husband, Dr. Arthur Raymond Thomasson, Jr. They were married for 57 years until his death in 2000.

She participated in various organizations during World War II, teaching Red Cross classes for in home nursing. She served on St. Paul School of Nursing Board for 6 years, was active in the Woman's Auxiliary of the Dallas County Medical Society, volunteering at Parkland Hospital Emergency Room for many years. She was also a member of the Dallas Junior League and their Garden Club. Mary and her husband were members of Christ the King Catholic Church since 1950, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She shared her husband's interest in medicine, golf and they were avid bridge players. Mary also pursued oil painting as her own personal hobby. Her priorities in life were her husband, children, her grandchildren and devotion to her faith. Together they shared a wonderful and happy life filled with love, travels and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Dabney Austin and nephew Michael Austin. She is survived by her son Alan Ray Thomasson of Creede, CO daughter, Marian Thomasson Jurgensen and her husband William Jurgensen, granddaughters Jennifer Lynn Jurgensen and Diane Marie Jurgensen all of Dallas, her devoted cousin, Mary Jane Miller of Memphis, TN and her family, Kathleen and Bobby Rozelle and daughters Katy and Jane from Dallas, Gerald Miller and Stephen Miller both from Memphis, TN and her nephews Harry Todd, Jr., Ray Todd, Tommy Todd of Dallas and nieces Anne Todd Barfield of Wimberley, and Anne Thomasson Weisner of Dallas. She will also be missed by America Izaguirre, her special caregiver, who she relied upon for many years.

Visitation is 5-6 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Calvary Hill Mausoleum Chapel, 3235 Lombardy Ln., Dallas, TX 75220. Fr. Peter Verhalen will be the celebrant.
