POPULAR YOUNG MAN SUMMONED

JOHN LEON COFFIN PASSES AWAY EARLY THIS MORNING AFTER A LONG ILLNESS

FUNERAL TUESDAY

Will be held from residence of his mother-Masons to attend and have charge.

John Leon Coffin, one of the City's popular and well known young men, answered the death summons at an early hour this morning, after having been confined to the house by illness for the past 18 weeks.
John Leon Coffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Coffin, was born in Mount Carmel on February 11, 1894, and at his death on Monday, June 11, 1923 was aged 29 years and 4 months.
He became a member of the Presbyterian church at the age of 12 years and lead a righteous and upright life in according with the teachings of his faith. He was educated in the Mount Carmel Public schools and at the Staunton, VA Military Academy, but ill health prevented him from completing his education. He then accepted a position with the Big Four railroad company and was promoted to engine dispatcher, which position he held a the time of his death.
He was married to Mrs. Norma Habberton on June 7, 1916. To this happy union were born, Jane, aged 6, Sarah aged 4 and Ruth aged 4 months, all of whom, with Mrs. Coffin, survive. Surviving also, are the mother of the deceased, Mrs. John Coffin, and one sister, Mrs. Harry Hanson, of Cleveland, OH. His father died on May 21, 1915.
The deceased was one of the most widely known and most popular young men on the Cairo division of the Big Four. He was a lover of the great outdoors, field and stream and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.
He was a member of the Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge, the Loyal Order of Moose and Railway Clerk's union. Funeral services will be held from the residence of his mother West Street, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. J. Fl. Blagle. The Masons will have charge of the services at the grave.
