The first of seven children born to Ewald Henry Zachritz and Mary Ann (Yanney) Zachritz. He was born in Cincinnati, OH and moved to Rockport, IN with his family in 1867, where he lived until his death. On August 7, 1942. In 1895 he married Philippena Weber, and to this union one daughter, Hulda, was born.
