Edward Bowen Holbert was born on August 29, 1875 in Pennsylvania. He was the second born son of Fannie A. Bowen and Hezekiah Holbert.
Edward had an older brother, Robert Conkling Holbert, an older sister, Mary Estelle Holbert and four younger sisters and one younger brother. Edward's younger siblings were...Emma Holbert, who died at 4 months and 15 days of age. Helen Mary Holbert, (1882-1966), Winifred Holbert, born in 1884, Helen Holbert born in 1885, and James W. Holbert (1886-1922).
Edward grew up in Pennsylvania. The 1880 census shows him living in Williamsport, Lycoming, Pennsylvania at 53 Uffin Vine Street in the 5th ward. He was 4 years old at the time and lived with his father, his mother, his brother Robert Conkling and his sister, Mary E and one servant.
The 1900 census, shows Edward living in St. Paul, Minnesota at the age of 25, with his father, Hezekiah, his mother, Fannie, his sisters, Mary C, Helen, and Winnifred and his brother James. Also living with him was his grandmother, Martha, a coachman, and two servants. The family was living at 659 Summit Avenue in St. Paul.
In 1904, the R.L. Polk and Co's directory shows him living at 24 South St. Albans Street in St. Paul, MN. He must have lived there for only a short time as on June 8, 1905, the census shows him living at 1700 Portland Avenue with his wife, Florence Dudley Finch and his sister-in-law, Lilla, her husband Sewall and their new baby, Mary Finch Andrews.
The 1910 census shows Edward living at 703 Lincoln Avenue in St. Paul, MN with his wife, Florence and his two sons, Dudley Finch, and Edward Bowen, Jr and two servants.
On September 10, 1918, Edward filled out a draft card which shows Edward and his family living at 19 Kenwood Parkway. The draft card indicated he was a Mdse Broker for Holbert and Company and worked at 301 Brokerage Bldg in St. Paul. The draft card also indicated that Edward was of medium height, medium build and had brown eyes and brown hair.
On January 12, 1920, the census shows Edward still living at 19 Kenwood Parkway with his wife Florence, and their three children, Dudley, Edward and Florence and two servants.
On April 8, 1930, the census shows Edward living at 461 Holly Avenue in St. Paul with his wife, Florence and their daughter, Florence Jane.
On January 26, 1935, Edward left New Orleans for a cruise with his wife Florence. They took the ship, the Santa Marta of the United Fruit Company. They left New Orleans on January 26, 1935 and went to Havana, Cristobal Tela and Havana before returning to New Orleans on February 11th. Edward and Florence loved to travel and went on several cruises together.
On April 1, 1940, the census shows Edward living at 461 Holly Avenue with his wife, Florence.
Edward died at 8:45am on April 14th, 1945 from cancer of the liver, at the age of 69. his death certificate shows that the cancer had metasticized throughout his body. Edward was living at 149 South St. Albans Street in St. Paul, Minnesota at the time of his death. Edward was buried in Oakland Cemetery on April 17th in the family plot with his wife, Florence, his parents, and his son,Dudley Finch Holbert.
