Morris first married Anna May McClelland and they had one son, Morris Jr. while they lived in Beaumont, Texas. He married second, Mittie Lee Johnson, on 17 May 1936 in Beaumont.

Morris worked as a Merchant Marine during most of his career except for the time spent in the US Navy aboard the USS BOSTON. After World War II, the family moved to Abilene, Texas but he continued as a Merchant Marine. Morris died in the hospital at Key West, Florida in 1956.
